The power of the transformation lies in the power of the conversation.
When you’re a coach, you usually get a 15 minute discovery chat, or a 1 hour coaching conversation, or a 4 hour intensive to coach your client. In that time frame, it’s your job to help the client improve and grow, and over time, they want to see real, measurable results from your coaching. And you have to do it all through your conversation!
That can be kind of daunting — how can I change their life by just talking??? That’s why I’m bringing you three tips to make sure you set yourself and your client up for success.
- Define Results Ahead of Time!
One of the biggest things you can do to make sure your client gets results, is to define what those results are ahead of time. Take a session with your client to create goals that you can help them achieve.
Make sure the goals are measurable and attainable, so you and the client know exactly when they’ve been accomplished.
If you and the client are on the same page about where you’re headed, and what success looks like, then it’s much easier to get results!
- Create a Coaching Session Structure
I know, I know, I know…You’re probably thinking: I can’t be creative inside a box! A structure is too restrictive!
OKAY. That’s fine!
HOWEVER…structures are insanely powerful. Having a system in place for your coaching calls makes things smoother and allows you to dive deep with your client sooner, because you know where the conversation needs to go.
A super simple structure may include a “lead up conversation” in your call that gets the client talking and opening up, a “breakthrough conversation” that dives deep into their concerns, and a “takeaway conversation” that recaps what you’ve talked about.
- Have the CLIENT Choose the Next Steps
Instead of handing the client their next steps after the coaching session, have THEM decide what they need to do next.
If they’re hesitant to do this, you can help them by asking questions like:
- What are some of the next steps we should take?
- How will we measure our success?
- How will you hold yourself accountable to the goals you set today?
- How can I partner with you to enhance your accountability?
Always make sure your client has something to work on before the session ends!
…
Follow these tips and you’ll be on your way to running a powerful coaching session that creates lasting results for your clients. 🚀
